Centennial Park is one of Nashville’s iconic destinations. It is peaceful, beautiful, and a natural place of refuge for pets and people alike. In addition to regular visits to this incredible urban park (complete with lake, exercise trails, or the dog park), the never-ending horizon calls for adventure-loving pets. If your dog already shows a certain level of confidence and obedience in a place like Centennial, chances are they are prepared to handle the best pet-friendly hikes near Nashville.

Close to Home

Central Tennessee has so much going for it, the process of choosing between pet-friendly hikes near Nashville can be rather daunting. For a relatively easy way to start your hiking regimen, we recommend Warner Parks. Located less than 10 miles from downtown, Warner Parks spans over 3,000 acres of open land and forest. In addition to a long list of amenities, there are loads of pet-friendly hikes to choose from.

Smell the Smells!

The Trails at Fontanel is a popular choice for hikers, dog owners, and nature-lovers alike, in part because it’s only a 20-minute drive from downtown. Part of the Briley Parkway, the trails at Fontanel are shaded, boast strenuous inclines (but not too steep), and run near a creek. Extend your stay by connecting to the Whites Creek Greenway, or pack a picnic to enjoy in the meadow by the entrance. Sublime!

Stones River Greenway

Who could argue that the Stones River Greenway near Murfreesboro, about 34 miles outside of Nashville, isn’t a magical place for pets to roam, meet new friends, and swim? Wildlife spectating, fishing, and so much more create a memorable family day trip. Your dog will absolutely love it!

Expand the Radius

Upping the ante can take time, but when curating a list for the best pet-friendly hikes near Nashville, don’t leave out David Crockett State Park. Situated about 82 miles away, this state park is gorgeous and fun, and worth the extra drive time. There are numerous hiking trails, and you and your pet can extend your day trip by staying at a cabin or campground.

Falling for Falls

Burgess Falls State Park is absolutely stunning and should be on every active dog owner’s list. The River Trail/Service Road Loop is moderately difficult, but takes visitors by 4 different cascading waterfalls on the Falling Water River. Dogs must be on-leash at all times, and we recommend taking your time to really soak up nature’s beauty together.
